The Hand Book

Michigan Comics Network is putting together an anthology featuring short works by our members and other select Michigan cartoonists. Referring to the unique geography of the state's lower peninsula, it will be called The Hand Book, with all of the included stories having a "hand" theme. Not quite "flight", but it'll be a fun assortment of talent.

"Choose Your Own Plot" Jam

A group project currently underway is a larger-scale jam inspired by the "Choose Your Own Adventure" books. Each participating cartoonist will produce a page, ending whenever possible with a choice of which direction the plot will take from there. Then two different cartoonists will each take one of the choices and continue the story in that direction. It promises to be barely-controlled chaos, and will be published here online as it progresses. The story begins here.

Meeting Comics Jams

When a bunch of musicians get together and there are instruments at hand, it's not unusual for a jam session to happen, with everybody pitching in and lending their musical voice to an improvised piece. Comics creators are like that too. These jams are created at our meetings, without any idea ahead of time of where they were headed. Each person would add a panel and pass it on to someone else to continue, pretty much at random. Sometimes they get stuck (as in "traffic jam"), but the results can also be sweet - and lumpy and sticky - (as in "strawberry jam"). Visit the Meeting Comics Jams page to see what we hath wrought.
